What leadership means at 10
For a ten-year-old, leadership looks like taking responsibility for a small task and seeing it through, helping a group decide fairly, speaking up when something isn’t right, and noticing someone who has been left out. None of that needs a title.
How it’s practised
Children build leadership by doing it, at a size that suits them: running one part of a group project, presenting to younger learners, organizing a small event. Afterwards, they reflect with a mentor on what went well and what they’d do differently next time.
Leadership is a set of habits, not a personality.
At home
Give your child real responsibilities with real consequences, like planning a family meal or managing a small budget. When things go wrong, ask what they learned before stepping in. Quiet children can lead too; leadership isn’t the same as being the loudest in the room.
