Coming soon to OttawaFrançais

On a calm evening island, a mother and her child walk hand in hand up a gentle ramp with a handrail to the Hikmah centre’s lit door, with a bench and a lamp post out front.

Legal

Terms of use

Last updated: November 7, 2026

On this page

These terms explain the rules for using the Hikmah Education website. We have tried to write them plainly. Please read them, together with our privacy policy, before you use the website or send us information. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the website.

Who we are

In these terms, “Hikmah Education”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Hikmah Education, which is preparing to open a learning centre in Ottawa, Ontario, for students from Grade 1 to Grade 12. The centre is not yet open. Once our business is registered, we will name the legal entity that operates this website on this page. “You” means anyone who visits or uses the website.

Accepting these terms

By using the website, you agree to these terms. If you use the website on behalf of someone else, such as another member of your family, you confirm that you are allowed to do so. The website is intended for adults, especially parents and persons responsible for children. Children may read our articles and worksheets with an adult, but we ask that only adults fill in our forms.

What these terms cover

These terms apply only to the website, hikmahedu.ca, and the forms on it. They do not cover enrolment at our centre or use of our learning platform. When the centre opens, families will receive a separate written enrolment agreement that sets out programs, fees, schedules, cancellations and responsibilities. If that agreement differs from anything on this website, the enrolment agreement will apply.

Our plans may change

We are still preparing to open. Our programs, schedules, tuition, location, opening date and staff are being finalized and may change. The website describes what we intend to do, not what we have already done. Nothing on the website is an offer of enrolment, a contract or a promise of any academic result. Each child learns at their own pace, and outcomes depend on many things, including attendance and practice at home.

Not professional advice

Our articles, worksheets and examples are general information for families. They are not medical, psychological, psychoeducational, legal or financial advice, and they are not an assessment of any child. If you have concerns about your child’s health, development or learning needs, please speak with a qualified professional, such as your family doctor or your child’s school.

Illustrations, examples and platform screens

The illustrations, stories, sample progress updates and learning-platform screens on this website are illustrative. Children named in examples are not real children unless we say so. Our learning platform is still in development: screens on this website show how we intend it to work and may not match the finished product. Features we describe may change or may not be available when we open.

The AI-readiness check

The AI-readiness check is a short, informal questionnaire. It works out a general summary in your browser, based only on your answers; to open the full report you share your contact details with us, as our privacy policy explains. It is not a test, a diagnosis or a professional assessment of you or your child, and it should not be the only basis for any decision about your child’s education. Our privacy policy explains what happens to your answers.

The waitlist and founding-family offer

Joining the waitlist is free and creates no obligation for you or for us. It does not reserve a place, and it does not commit us to opening on any particular date or at any particular location. The details of the founding-family offer, including who is eligible, what it includes and when it applies, will be confirmed in writing before the centre opens. We may change or withdraw the offer before it is confirmed.

Career interest

Registering your interest in working with us does not create an application for a specific position, an offer of employment or any obligation. When we begin hiring, we will publish each role with its own requirements. Every role that involves working with children will require a police vulnerable sector check before starting.

Acceptable use

Please use the website lawfully and respectfully. You agree not to: submit false information or information about another person without their permission; send anything unlawful, threatening, hateful, harassing or obscene; send spam, advertising or malicious code; try to gain unauthorized access to the website, its host or our systems; test, probe or interfere with the website’s security or operation; use automated tools to copy or collect the website’s content or the information of others; or use the website to build a competing product or to train machine-learning systems without our written permission. We may block access or remove content to protect the website, our families or the public.

Intellectual property

The website and its content, including its text, worksheets, illustrations, animations, design, the Hikmah Education name, the Hikmah Lamp mark and our other logos, belong to Hikmah Education or to people who have allowed us to use their work. They are protected by Canadian and international copyright and trademark law. Our names and marks may not be used in a way that suggests we endorse or are connected with you or your product.

What you may do with our content

You may view, download and print pages, articles and worksheets for your own family’s non-commercial use, and you may share a link to any page. A classroom teacher may print our worksheets for their own students at no charge, provided our name stays on them. You may not sell our content, change it and present it as your own, republish it on another website, or use our illustrations or marks without our written permission. To ask for permission, use our contact page.

What you send us

When you send us information through a form, you confirm that it is accurate and that you are allowed to share it, including any information about your child. We use it as our privacy policy describes. If you send us ideas or feedback about our programs or website, you allow us to use them to improve our work, without any obligation to you. We will never publish your name or your child’s information without your permission.

Availability of the website

We work to keep the website available and secure, but it may sometimes be unavailable, slow or contain errors, for example during maintenance or because of problems with our host. We may change, suspend or remove any part of the website at any time.

Disclaimers

We take care to make the website accurate and useful. However, to the extent permitted by law, the website and its content are provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any warranty that the content is complete, current or suitable for a particular purpose, or that the website will be free of errors or harmful components.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Hikmah Education is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, opportunity or profit, arising from your use of the website, your inability to use it or your reliance on its content. Our total liability for any claim about the website is limited to one hundred Canadian dollars. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including liability for our own gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or any right you have under Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act, 2002 or other consumer protection law.

Indemnity

If you break these terms or the law while using the website, and someone makes a claim against us as a result, you agree to compensate us for the reasonable costs of that claim, including reasonable legal fees, to the extent permitted by law. This does not apply to claims caused by our own fault.

Privacy

Our privacy policy explains what personal information we collect through the website, why, how we protect it and your rights. Our children’s data page explains how we treat information about children, and our privacy choices page explains the choices you can make. Please read them together with these terms.

Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use the website. Our accessibility statement describes the standard we work to, what we have done and how to tell us about a barrier. If any part of these terms is hard to read or understand, we will explain it in another way on request.

English and French

We publish these terms in English and French. Both versions are meant to say the same thing. If you notice a difference between them, please tell us so we can correct it.

Governing law and courts

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply in Ontario. Any dispute about these terms or the website will be heard by the courts located in Ottawa, Ontario, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere. Before going to court, we ask that you contact us so we can try to resolve the matter together.

If part of these terms cannot apply

If a court decides that any part of these terms cannot be enforced, that part will be limited as little as necessary, and the rest of the terms will continue to apply. If we do not enforce a term right away, we have not given up our right to enforce it later.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as our plans develop, for example when the centre opens or when our learning platform launches. When we do, we will post the new version on this page with a new date. If a change is significant, we will also say so on the website. Continuing to use the website after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Questions

If you have a question about these terms, please write to us through our contact page and choose “Something else”. We will reply in English or French, as you prefer.
