Why talk about stories
Reading together is one of the best things you can do for a young reader. Talking about the story afterwards turns listening into thinking: about characters, choices and what might happen next.
Questions worth asking
Why do you think she did that? What would you have done? What do you think happens next? Was anything confusing? Which part would you change? Open questions like these have no single right answer, and that’s the point.
Talking about stories turns listening into thinking.
Keep it light
A question or two is plenty. If your child is tired, let the story be enough. The goal is a habit of wondering about what you read, not a quiz before sleep.
